ARTIST STATEMENT

.I CREATE works on paper from my home studio, using inspiration from nature, Pacific North West Native symbolism, propaganda posters, wild woman archetypes, and verbal affirmations & mantras.

.I am INSPIRED BY Frida Kahlo’s masculinity, Barbara Kruger’s proclamations, Shepard Fairy’s activism, Bridget Riley’s painterly abstracts, and Tracey Emin’s vulnerability.

.For me, ART IS a sigh of relief and a sense of control at the same time.  It is playful.  It is challenging.  It is a new adventure every time.

.I use SUMI INK to fill in shapes traced from my collection of straightedges.  The triangle is present in most of my drawings.  It is a symbol that represents change, stability, and femininity.

.VISUAL POEMS are phrases found in books, poetry, podcasts, and news articles combined with my love for painting & printmaking.
